A warm welcome awaits you at Ipplepen Bowling Club. We have an outdoor carpeted green which allows bowling all year round. Whether you are an experienced bowler or someone who would like to try their hand at bowling without any pressures, come along to our very friendly Club.
Our Club was formed in 1981 and has four outdoor carpeted rinks. We meet on Tuesday and Friday mornings each week to have practice roll-up sessions. Anyone wishing to play must sign-in at the Clubhouse between 9.00 and 9.30 am so that teams can be made-up ready to start play at 9.45am. We play 16 ends, stopping after 8 ends for a cup of tea and biscuits, and then play the remaining 8 ends, thus finishing the session around 12.30.
The green is available to play on all other days of the week and so once you are a member of the Club you can purchase (for a minimal fee) your own key, which then gives you access to be able to practice by yourself or arrange a session with other members at times to suit yourselves. The only day in an entire year that we cannot use the green is Christmas Day – so there are plenty of opportunities for you to play right throughout the year.
We hold our own inter-Club competitions i.e. men’s champion, ladies champion, ladies/gents pairs, and mixed pairs, together with the Ken Day Memorial match and the Wakelyn Shield match. During the year we play an L-v-G match and a Dorella Cup match, both which sees the ladies -v- the gents and gives for two very enjoyable “battle” matches !!! Throughout the summer season (April to end of September) we hold friendly matches against other local teams.
The gents play during the summer in the South Devon “Over 55’s” league, which sees them playing home and away matches every Wednesday morning from May to September.
During the winter months we enter a mixed team in the Dawlish Indoor Winter league, and we are pleased to report that in the winter season October 2023 to March 2024 we finished in 4th position.
We have a qualified coach, Mary Oliphant who is always on hand to give any help and advice for new players. She also runs coaching / training sessions for ladies only every Wednesday evening from 6 -7 pm. For further information or to check which Wednesday’s during the current month the sessions are running please ring Mary on 01803 872683.
Every Thursday Evening from 6:30pm Brian and Steve are running social bowls evenings, come along and enjoy the fun of playing bowls casual clothes but flat bottom shoes must be worn.
As well as full membership being offered for players, we also have a winter-membership so that any bowler who belongs to another Bowling Club who has a grass green and therefore cannot play all year round – we welcome you throughout the winter season.
We then have a social membership for people who would like to support our Club, and who can come along and watch any of the matches being played, and can attend our social events like cream teas, Christmas mulled wine & mince pies afternoon etc.
We hold a Whist Drive on the second Thursday of every month all through the year. It is a fun afternoon to come along and have a game of cards, and enjoy the company of others. There is the added bonus of winning some lovely prizes too. Cost of entrance is £3 which includes tea, coffee and biscuits at half-time !
For any further enquiries please contact our Secretary Shirley 01803 813980.

We give thanks to Harry Northwood, who has set this website up and regularly updates all the news, events, photos etc. Harry is currently studying at Coombeshead Academy 6th form and the U.T.C. both in Newton Abbot - and we appreciate all the help and support he continues to give to us in running this site. Have a good look around, all membership application forms are available to download, take a look at all the photos from various years as well as the archive photos, and look at the current events pages, so you can see all what is going on at the Club … and then why not pop up and see us?
